Costa Rica stay
Posted on: 12/12/2014
We loved the house as a whole however as we were the first to stay there under new owners we had a few issues. First there were very few kitchen utensils, pots and pans, and plates. Also there was no clock in the home. The sheets on the bed didn't fit and the TV didn't come in and the dvd player wasn't working. The house itself was lovely, especially the bathroom. We went down after some major flooding and the pool was unavailble at the time but the beach was only a short walk away. Costa Rica is beautiful and we would love to come back.

the house itself had everything we needed. a few things to think of that would improve the stay would be better bedding. a pique on top of the mattress, so that we are not all sweating into the same mattress (yuck), and cotton sheets, not polyester. also, the pillows were pretty bad, all lumpy. the biggest problem with that house is the dust that accumulates everywhere. we couldn't use the hammock since it was covered in a thick layer of dust and the rest of the terrace had to be cleaned every time we wished to use it. the pool and pool area was divine. water pressure great, the blender came in very handy. perhaps a french press coffee maker would be nice too. the machine we had didn't work, thankfully we brought our own.

Yoga Institute is very close and really great...

The managers were very nice, and the yoga institute was very close, but for the money, this place was not a great rental. It was really not very clean, and definitely had never been deep cleaned. The bedding was not nice at all, a very thin pilly sheet on an old bare mattress. Horrible old pillows. The shower head was old and clogged up from hard water. I was afraid to sit on the living room furniture, it seemed very dirty. A new $10 shower head would have made a world of difference, along with nicer bedding and a really deep cleaning. For example, the toilet seat was loose (and dirty), so I tightened it up properly with a kitchen knife and cleaned it as soon as we got into the place. But that is something that should be maintained by the owners, not the guests. Also, the pool area was not well kept.

Fun Surf, But Overall Not a Great Experience or Good Value

A bit of background - I've lived in Costa and around Central america for the last 4 years surfing various waves and living in different towns. We rented this unit for 3 months. First the good: 1. The wave is super fun. It's consistent, holds size, and produces long rippable waves. 2. The assistant for the rental company was really nice and attentive. Now the bad - 1. The house is right on top of a dusty road with tons of traffic. We were there in the dry season and could not use the porch at all. The porch is about 10 feet from a very busy road with tons of construction trucks and Suvs. We had to live indoors the entire 3 months and pay extra for a/C because it's just to dusty otherwise. 2. The maid. Absolutely the worst cleaning I've ever see bar none. She would act as if she was doing us a favor and do a terrible job! 3. It's a tiny box considering you can't open the doors and live indoor/outdoor with the porch. 4. Bedding is terrible. I was using a sheet that would be garbage back home. The pillows were old and gross too. Bed was uncomfortable. 5. The furniture is gross and old. I bring my own cooking gear but they did have a few decent pots. 6. Guiones ran out of water in March. I've been on water restriction before, but they were organized. This was not. Water would randomly shut off, at any time during the day, sometimes for up to 18 hours. Really horrible situation. Imagine coming home from the beach, salty, sandy and wanting a shower and to cook dinner only to discover the friggin water is off - until the next morning! With no warning! 7. The restaurant selection in town is poor and overpriced IMO. 8. You need at least a bike but probably a car to do most anything. In sum - Nosara is the 'it' place at the moment and the prices come with that. But the growth is mismanaged and poorly organized. Fun wave, but there are some many other places to live it's simply not worth the hassle of living in a small cramped, dusty and dirty house. I'd pass.

Sorry to hear your experience at the house was not positive. Since then all linens and pillows have been changed. Mattresses have not but clients who came at later dates have not complained about them. They are othopedic foams and we have been using them at a B&B for 10 years with only 3 complaints in 10 years.
Water shortage was an issue last year due to very little rain in the past two rainy seasons and a lot of people in town. Water was running out of the wells faster that could be controlled and there was no way to warn people ahead of time. So the water company has to cut off water to allow wells to fill up again.
Maid has been replaced.
One of the charm of Nosara is its dirt roads, but yes, they will create dust,, when people drive too fast on it, and if you are allergic to it, then this house, and probably Nosara is not for you.

Convenient, but that's about it
Posted on: 12/12/2014
Costa House was convenient to the beach, town and the famed yoga institute. The house in itself was good. It was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately with all the construction going on in and around Playa Guiones it was noisy and dusty. Ironically, the yoga institute's new construction caused much of our grief with construction 7 days a week 12 hours a day. As well, numerous dump trucks were transitting up and down the road all day. There were times when I couldn't even carry on a conversation with my husband because the traffic noise was so loud. Something akin to being beside an airport and planes taking off frequently. The house is right on the road so a lot of dust was kicked up with the constant heavy vehicle traffic passing by. Night time was quiet, which was nice. Perhaps in time when the boom of Nosara starts to wane this will be a nice rental opportunity, but during our stay it was not pleasant. It is supposed to be a vacation rental after all. Things I did like about the house: location - we could walk our surf boards to the beach, about 15 mins from house to the line up, the hammock, wifi, access to a phone, working blender (great for morning shakes), waking up to the bell from the yoga institute, and being so close to the yoga institute that going to a class was a short walk away. Fortunately, the property managers were kind enough to relocate us to a quieter location. The house is good value for what is charged. Once construction starts to lessen in the area it will be a nice place to stay.
